Can I use BT Home Hub 5 with another ISP
Technically speaking, the Home Hub 5 is locked to BT accounts, including ADSL, Infinity and those connections provided by its subsidiary Plusnet.
However, there’s no reason why you can’t still use the Home Hub 5 as a brilliantly-fast access point, making full use of its Gigabit Ethernet switch in the process.

Can I use a router as an extender
If the router doesn’t support running as a repeater or an extender using the manufacturer’s firmware, there’s another way. See if the router can use open-source firmware (like DD-WRT). If so, chances are that you can indeed use your old router as an extender. Only an 802.11n or ac router will do.
