Fortnite split screen on Xbox only works in two modes: Duos and Squads. The second player option won’t show up unless you’re in the lobby for one of those modes. All you need to do is select Battle Royale and then select one of the two required modes.

Anyone know how to remove the character pictures when playing split screen? Have both players login then start the game. Select squad or duos then there will be a prompt at the bottom of the screen for the 2nd player to “Hold A to join”. Once they do that you are ready to go.

To remove the second player, have them shake their Joy-Con again to despawn the character. If you do not do this the second player character will keep spawning when the main player gets too far away until the controller goes to sleep.
